HVAC design and heat-load calculations

Tabreed Electro Mechanic Contracting prepares HVAC designs in Ras Al Khaimah: heat-load calculations to ASHRAE methods, system selection and full design drawings, for our own projects and for engineering consultancy offices. Our Design & Drafting department works with the other divisions, so one company can take a design through to installation.

What's included

  • Heat-load calculations to ASHRAE methods
  • System selection: chilled water, packaged, VRF, DX or split
  • HVAC design drawings
  • Ventilation design
  • Designs prepared for engineering consultants

Heat-load calculations

We calculate heat loads to ASHRAE methods, so that equipment can be sized to the building and the way it is used. The calculation is the first step of the design: we study the building and its use, calculate the loads and then select the system.

Choosing the system

The calculation guides the choice between chilled water, packaged, VRF, DX and split systems. Large buildings such as hospitals, malls, schools and towers suit a central chilled water plant. Packaged units usually sit on the roof and are ducted to the spaces below. In a VRF system one outdoor unit serves many indoor units, each controlled on its own.

Design drawings and ventilation design

We prepare full engineering designs and drawings for HVAC systems: ducted and packaged systems, chilled water plants and ventilation.

Designs for engineering consultants

We also prepare designs for engineering consultancy offices in Ras Al Khaimah, alongside the designs for our own contracts.

Our Design & Drafting department

Design & Drafting is one of six departments that support our six operational divisions, alongside Administration, Contracts, Engineering & Planning, Tendering & Proposals, and Maintenance. Our engineers and draftsmen prepare the designs, and the department supports the other divisions.

From design to installation

Where we also hold the installation contract, the same company supplies the equipment, fabricates the ductwork and installs the system: see HVAC contracting and installation. The equipment is sized from the heat-load calculation: see air-conditioning equipment supply.

Systems we design

The systems named in our design work, and what each one does.

Systems we design
System What it does
Chilled water systems A central plant chills water and pumps it to air handling units and fan coils around the building. Suited to large buildings such as hospitals, malls, schools and towers.
Packaged units Self-contained units, usually on the roof, with all cooling parts in one cabinet, ducted to the spaces below.
Ducted split units An indoor unit hidden above the ceiling sends cooled air through short ducts to grilles in each room.
Ventilation fans Supply and exhaust fans that move fresh air in and stale air out of a building.

Questions and answers

Which method do you use for heat-load calculations?

ASHRAE methods. The calculation sizes the equipment to the building and the way it is used.

Do you prepare designs for engineering consultants?

Yes. We prepare designs for engineering consultancy offices in Ras Al Khaimah, as well as for our own contracts.

Do you also install what you design?

Yes. Our contracting division supplies, installs and commissions the system. See HVAC contracting and installation.

Which systems do you design?

Chilled water plants, packaged and ducted systems, and ventilation.

Do you work to a consultant's design?

Yes. Where a consultant has already designed the system, we work to the approved design.

Where we work

We are based in Khuzam, Ras Al Khaimah, and our duct-fabrication workshop is in Al Felayah. Our project list includes buildings across Ras Al Khaimah, among them Al Hamra, Al Rams, Al Qawasim Corniche and Dafan, and in Umm Al Quwain, Kalba (Sharjah) and Dubai (Al Eyas and The Sustainable City). Our on-call team serves clients across the northern emirates.
